Our goal with this project was to create a visual dashboard from data provided by NYS DEC. Wider visibility into diversion rates for specific material streams will encourage policymakers to support actions that increase CDW recycling by providing a scope of the opportunities present in the local recycled materials market.
From a site, waste disposal trucks pick up C&D waste, and then drop it off at a Transfer Facility. From there, waste hauler trucks take it either to a Recycling Facility or a Landfill
A graph of monthly breakdown of different materials for 2019. While not each material is recyclable, visualizing quantities of other materials underscores the importance of this tool for exploring trends in waste disposal.
The tool can be used to map where each material transaction ended up. One can even visualize multiple transhipment flows through transfer facilities and landfills.
